Flex Your Kindness Muscles at the Empathy Gym!

Thursday, April 11, 2019

For those of you that don’t know Lauren Findley (@laurenlf), you’re in for a treat! Lauren is a gym shark and fitness model who has grown an amazing following (over 500K followers on Instagram). She’s got abs of steel, killer triceps, but most importantly a really large and caring heart.

You may be wondering why we’re posting about Lauren and how she ties into No Bully. Lauren contacted us and asked if we would be interested in doing a partnership with her. She was passionate about spreading our message and wanted to use her platform for good.

My first question was, do fitness and bullying really go hand in hand? It quickly dawned on me that working on your physique is very similar to working on your character. Science proves that kindness is a strength that we also have to flex just like a muscle. The more we use it the easier it gets. Hence, Lauren and No Bully created a four-week campaign called “Flex Your Kindness Muscles at the Empathy Gym!”

Over these four weeks, Lauren will talk about the health benefits of kindness which include:

  • Kindness is good for your heart! Witnessing acts of kindness produces oxytocin.
  • It fuels energy and produces serotonin which generates that feeling of calmness.
  • Kindness just makes you happier overall!
  • Studies have shown that developing a habit of kindness reduces pain, stress, anxiety, depression, and blood pressure.

Lauren will also be covering how there are different types of kindness that you can exhibit which include self-care, kindness towards strangers, and kindness towards family and friends. This week she is focussed on self-care! To help Lauren in her efforts to spread the word, No Bully has created a list of the top 100 ways to practice self-kindness. Hopefully, this will give you a ton of ideas to try this week! Follow us on Instagram (nobully_org) or Facebook (@nobully) and let us know which ones you liked best :)

If you are inspired and want to see more kindness out in the world, consider donating to No Bully. 10 million students per year are bullied in the United States. Every dollar helps to eradicate this bullying and ignite more compassion. Thank you!
